When building a greenhouse, it is important to determine the appropriate orientation, which is directly related to the growth of crops and the efficiency of photosynthesis. Different greenhouse types and geographical locations require different orientation strategies to ensure optimal lighting and ventilation.
Single vault and long span quilt vault are usually extended north and south. This layout makes the indoor light more even, the crops get plenty of light on both the east and west sides, and the morning and afternoon light can complement each other. At the same time, the north-south extension also helps ventilation, improve the air quality in the shed, and is conducive to the growth of crops.
For the single-slope greenhouse, that is, the energy-saving solar greenhouse, the north faces south, and the main lighting surface should face south. This layout ensures that the greenhouse receives the most solar radiation in winter, increasing the temperature inside the shed and promoting crop growth. However, in high latitudes or areas with heavy morning fog and low temperatures, due to late sunrise, the orientation of the greenhouse may need to be appropriately west to take more advantage of the low light in the afternoon. On the contrary, in areas where winter is not cold, early morning light is good, and there is not much fog, the orientation of the greenhouse can be appropriately east to make full use of the weak light in the morning and improve photosynthetic efficiency.
For multi-storey greenhouses, because of the characteristics of full light transmission on the top and around, the orientation has relatively little impact on the indoor light and thermal environment. Factors such as ventilation and shading are mainly considered when determining the orientation of multi-storey greenhouses. Generally, the north-south ridge of the multi-storey greenhouse indoor ventilation effect is better, while the indoor shadow is relatively less. This layout is conducive to the uniform light and ventilation of crops, improving the overall growth environment.
